How to Calculate Land Area from 4 Sides?
This calculator estimates the area of a four-sided land plot using an approximate formula for irregular quadrilaterals. When only the lengths of all four sides are known, we use the simplified version of Brahmagupta’s formula for convex quadrilaterals:
- Formula Used: Area = √((s - a)(s - b)(s - c)(s - d)), where s is the semi-perimeter (a + b + c + d) / 2
- Area in Decimal: Decimal = Area (in sqft) / 435.6
Example: For sides 40 ft, 50 ft, 45 ft, 55 ft:
s = (40 + 50 + 45 + 55)/2 = 95
Area ≈ √((95 - 40)(95 - 50)(95 - 45)(95 - 55)) = √(55×45×50×40) ≈ 15748.02 sqft
Decimal ≈ 15748.02 / 435.6 ≈ 36.15
